# Do I need an OnlyFans agency, or can I do this alone?

> When an agency pays off, when it doesn't, and the two numbers you can work out yourself before deciding.

**Short answer:** You can absolutely do it alone – it costs you time instead of a percentage. The real question isn't "agency yes or no", it's: how many hours a week can you genuinely put in, and how much of that do you want to spend in the chat? If you have under ten hours, or you don't enjoy chatting, you usually earn more with an agency than without – share included.

We are an agency, answering the question of whether you need one. That is obviously self-interested, so below you will also find when the answer is no.

## What you carry alone

Without an agency you do all of it. This isn't a list to scare you – it's the list you can count hours against:

- **Producing content.** The part you'd do anyway.
- **Editing and uploading.** Cropping, formats, captions, schedule.
- **Chatting.** The part that brings the money – and the part that never stops. Fans write at night, at weekends and while you're away.
- **Building reach.** Instagram, TikTok, Reddit: your own accounts, your own rhythm, your own bans.
- **Setting prices, planning promotions, keeping subscribers.**
- **Keeping taxes, invoices and platform fees straight.**

The point where most people stop isn't production. It's chatting alongside a day job.

## The two numbers it comes down to

Work this out before you decide:

**First: how many hours do you really have in a week?** Not in your best month – in a normal one. Under ten hours, production and editing leave almost nothing for chatting, and then the revenue stays exactly where it started: unclaimed.

**Second: what is an hour of your time worth?** If you earn money or study in that same time, the comparison isn't "share versus nothing". It's "share versus your hour".

An example, with no promise attached: someone making £2,000 a month alone, putting in 25 hours a week, is earning roughly £20 an hour. Someone making £3,000 with an agency, paying [commission](https://impulse.management/en/blog/how-much-commission-does-an-onlyfans-agency-take/) out of it and putting in 8 hours, comes out ahead – even if the bank statement looks similar at first glance.

The numbers are made up. The arithmetic isn't. Put your own in.

## The decision as a table

The same points as above, side by side:

| Your situation | Alone | With an agency |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Under 10 hours a week | chatting goes undone | usually pays for itself |
| Over 20 hours, you enjoy chatting | full income | a share for work you can do yourself |
| Day job or a child | hard to sustain | the normal case |
| Reach already built | you give nothing away | you sell a share of what exists |
| Still trying it out | right | too early |

## When an agency is not worth it

Honestly, and against our own interest:

- **You have time and you enjoy chatting.** Then you're giving away a share for something you already do well.
- **You're still trying it out.** If you don't yet know whether this is for you, run alone for a month or two first. An agency is no substitute for that decision.
- **You want control over every single message.** Handing over chatting means someone else writes in your name. If you don't want that, don't do it.
- **Your reach already exists and works.** Then you're selling a share of something that's already built.

## When it does pay off

- **You have little time** – day job, studies, a child.
- **You don't like chatting.** That's the most common reason, and it's a good one.
- **You're starting from zero** and don't want to teach yourself how reach is built.
- **You want to switch off in the evening** without your income going to sleep with you.

## What to check before you commit

Whoever it is – including us:

- Does the account belong to you, and do you keep the login? ([why this is the single most important point](https://impulse.management/en/transparency/))
- Does the platform pay you, or the agency?
- Is there a minimum term, or commission after the contract ends?
- Does joining cost anything? [Sign-up fees are a warning sign](https://impulse.management/en/blog/how-to-recognize-a-legitimate-onlyfans-agency/).

## And if you're unsure

Start alone and talk to someone after two months. Then you'll have your own numbers instead of an estimate – and the decision gets easier, not harder.
