**Short answer:** There is no single chatter salary — it depends on the pay model. Three are common: a flat rate only (predictable, rarely high), commission only (a wide range, and only serious with statements you can verify), and a smaller flat rate plus commission. The mixed model is the most common and, in our view, the fairest. If you are employed in Germany, at least the minimum wage applies: 13.90 euros an hour in 2026.

The most common question before applying as a chatter is about money — and the honest answer starts with this: there is no single "chatter salary". Earnings depend on the pay model, on your ability to sell in conversation, and on who you work for. This article sorts the models so you can compare offers.

## The three pay models

**Pure base pay.** A fixed hourly or monthly wage, independent of what is sold in the chat. Predictable, but rarely high — and a warning sign when the rate is conspicuously above the usual without performance behind it.

**Pure commission.** You receive a percentage of the revenue that verifiably comes from your chats. The range here is wide: someone who writes with empathy and can sell earns considerably more than in a fixed model — someone who cannot earns little. Pure commission is only legitimate with transparent reporting where you can verify your own numbers.

**Mixed models.** A smaller base plus commission is the most common arrangement in practice and, in our view, also the fairest: it gives you a floor and still rewards performance.

## The three models side by side

| | Fixed pay only | Commission only | Fixed pay plus commission |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Predictability | high | low | medium to high |
| Upside | limited | wide | wide |
| Risk on weak accounts | the employer's | yours | shared |
| Only legitimate with | a normal hourly rate | transparent accounting | both |
| How common | rare | occasional | most common |

A conspicuously high hourly rate with no performance behind it is not a good offer, it is a warning sign.

## The fixed figures for 2026 (Germany)

| What | 2026 |
| --- | --- |
| Minimum wage for employees | 13.90 € gross an hour (from 2027: 14.60 €) |
| Mini-job limit | 603 € a month – at minimum wage just over 43 hours, about 10 a week |

The minimum wage applies to employees, including in a mini-job. If you work self-employed on invoice, it does not apply; then what you agreed counts, and you handle tax and insurance yourself. Whether a contract really is self-employment or employment does not depend on its heading but on how the work actually runs.

## What earnings really depend on

More than on the model, your income depends on three things: the accounts you write on (one active account with paying fans beats three dead ones), the quality of your onboarding — and your own writing. Chatting is selling through conversation. If you listen, remember details and offer at the right moment instead of pushing, you build a stable income over months. ## How to spot offers that are not legitimate

Be careful with ads promising fixed dream figures ("€5,000 a month, no experience needed"), with upfront charges for "training", and with employers who will not show clear reporting. A legitimate employer names the model, the reporting logic and realistic ranges in the first conversation — and gives you time to decide. ## How it works with us

Our chat team works in German, properly onboarded — trained through our own programme, [Chatter Certified](https://chattercertified.com) — with transparent reporting. We name the specific terms in the first conversation — before you commit, not after. If you are interested, the [chatter application form](https://impulse.management/en/#chatter) is on the homepage; we usually reply within 24 hours.
