**Short answer:** Do not guess, look: Instagram tells you under Settings → Account Status. It says whether your account is restricted from recommendations, whether content was removed and which post triggered it. There is officially no such thing as a shadowban — the thing behind the word is real and checkable.

Overnight a reel goes from 20,000 views to 400. The word for it is "shadowban"; officially it does not exist — the thing behind it does, and it can be checked.

## Check first, do not guess

Instagram shows you directly: **Settings → Account status.** It tells you whether your account is restricted from recommendations, whether content was removed and whether monetisation is affected. With a restriction, the post that caused it is usually named.

That is step one. Everything else — hashtag tests, reach comparisons, third-party "shadowban checkers" — is guessing against information you can simply look up.

## What triggers restrictions

With our kind of content it is almost always the same three things.

**Content at the edge of the guidelines.** Not the one forbidden image but the sum: suggestion, framing, poses read as sexually soliciting. Instagram often does not remove such posts but stops recommending them — and recommendations are the reach.

**Links and wording.** References to adult platforms, including indirectly through a link page, are a frequent trigger.

**Behaviour that looks automated.** Many follows in a short time, the same comment everywhere, bought engagement. Inherited behaviour counts too: an account that once had bought followers carries that with it.

## What helps and what does not

| Helps | Does not help |
| --- | --- |
| removing the post that was named | reinstalling the app |
| using the appeal, where there is one | taking a three-day break |
| one to two weeks at normal frequency, no links | switching the account to private |
| checking Account Status daily | rotating hashtags |
| building a second source of reach | third-party "shadowban checkers" |

The right-hand column has been passed around for years and has no connection to what is actually being decided.

## What helps

Remove the post named and, where an appeal is offered, use it. Then work cleanly for one to two weeks: normal frequency, no links, no mass behaviour.

What does **not** help: reinstalling the app, taking three days off, switching the account to private, rotating hashtags. Those are tips that keep getting passed around and have no connection to what is actually decided.

## When it is not a shadowban

Reach fluctuates. A single weak reel is not a ban, it is a weak reel. The reverse happens too: an account grows through one viral video, and afterwards the normal state feels like a crash.

The rule of thumb: only when several posts over one to two weeks sit clearly below your own average **and** account status shows something are you talking about a restriction.

## Where it gets expensive

A restricted account can usually be rebuilt. A banned one cannot. So the most important protection is not the repair but the caution before it: what runs on Instagram is lifestyle, not sales content — and promoting the platform does not happen in the feed. ## How we do it

We check the account status of every managed Instagram account daily, not monthly. A restriction is noticed on the day it appears — not three weeks later, when nobody remembers which post caused it.
