Pushy fans and stalking: how to recognise it and what to do
3 min read · Updated on 2026-09-30
Short answer
The vast majority of fans are harmless, but you should be prepared for the few who are not. Prevention means: no clues to where you live in your content, location data off, no meetings. If it happens: do not argue, document everything, block and report – and where there are threats or stalking, go to the police and, in Germany, request a block on your address in the population register.
This worry is one of the most common reasons women hesitate. It is justified, but it is manageable – especially if you know the warning signs before they appear.
How to tell someone is going too far
- Questions about your city, neighbourhood or daily routine that keep coming back even when you dodge them.
- Details you never shared. A café, a street, your working hours.
- Photos of places, paired with "You were there, weren't you?".
- Money for closeness. Large sums tied to demands for a meeting, a private number or an address.
- A shift in mood. Affection that turns into accusations or threats when you do not respond as wanted.
One signal on its own is not stalking. Several together are a reason to start documenting from now on.
Prevention: what does not belong on camera
Views from the window, streets, number plates, landmarks. A window frame is surprisingly often enough to identify a street.
Reflections. Glasses, mirrors and dark screens show more than you think.
Post, parcels, invoices. Address labels in the background are the classic giveaway.
Location data. Turn off location access for the camera app – otherwise photos store where they were taken.
Wish lists and gifts only with a shipping option that hides your address. More under protecting your identity.
Meetings: never. No matter how much is offered. It is not up for negotiation.
Thinking about working with an agency? Applying takes two minutes – free of obligation and confidential.
Go to the applicationIf it happens: the order
| Step | Why |
|---|---|
| Do not argue, do not threaten | every reaction confirms he can reach you |
| Save everything: dated screenshots, username, payments | without evidence there is no ban and no complaint |
| Block and report to the platform | the platform can ban accounts, you cannot |
| Report threats or stalking to the police | stalking is a criminal offence in Germany (Section 238 StGB) |
| Request an address block in the population register | otherwise someone can ask the authorities for your address |
| Get support | it is harder alone than it needs to be |
Support is available without going to the police. In Germany, the national helpline for women affected by violence can be reached around the clock on 116 016, free of charge and anonymously if you wish. Outside Germany, local helplines serve the same purpose.
If your content turns up where it does not belong
That is a separate topic with its own tools – takedown requests, search services, deadlines. What helps with leaked content has its own guide.
How we handle it
With us, a trained team writes in the chat, not you personally – pushy fans reach them first. Private details are not given out, and anything unusual is passed on to you and to us instead of being answered. We actively search for copies of your content and have them removed. And at the start we go through with you what in your recordings could point to your home.
